Four Levels · Four Months · Complete Foundation
Systematic development of observational drawing ability through four distinct but interconnected levels. From first mark to confident artist.
The Programme
Foundation Skills provides a structured path from complete beginner to confident draughtsman. Over sixteen weeks, you will develop the observational accuracy, technical control, and artistic sensitivity that underpin all visual art—whether your goal is fine art, illustration, design, or simply the deep satisfaction of drawing well.
Each level builds on the previous one while also standing alone for students who need targeted skill development. Take individual levels to address specific gaps, or complete all four consecutively for the full foundation experience.

Four Levels
Each level introduces new concepts while reinforcing previous learning. The curriculum builds systematically from basic observation through to confident colour work.

Learn to see what is actually present. Master sight-size measurement, proportional relationships, form simplification, and the seven elements of light and shadow.

Apply observational skills to the human form. Study head proportions, facial features, expression, and simplified figure drawing from life.

Advance your value control and learn to create mood through light. Master edge quality, atmospheric perspective, and expressive lighting techniques.

Bridge the gap from monochrome to colour. Learn systematic colour mixing, temperature relationships, value in colour, and develop your personal palette.
Details
Complete beginners start at Level 1. But if you already have some drawing experience, you can join at whichever level feels right for where you are now. Each level builds specific skills, so Level 2 assumes you understand proportion and observation, Level 3 assumes you can handle basic figure work, and so on. Not sure which level suits you? Just ask — I'm happy to help you figure out where to start.
Tuesday evenings, 6:00–8:30 PM at Patch Bournemouth. Ideally everyone starts together in Week 1 so we can build progressively, but I understand life can be unpredictable. If you need to miss a session or join a bit late, we can always arrange to catch you up.
Each level is £165, or £135 if you book during the early bird window (opens two weeks before each level starts). You can take just one level, or all four — it's up to you and what you want to develop.

All materials are provided. You don't need to bring anything except yourself and willingness to learn.
Each group has a private online space where you can post homework, ask questions, and keep the conversation going. I check in 2–3 times a week to give feedback.
